Ask a question about a Hog Roast...

For most of you this may be the first time that you have ordered a hog roast, or if you prefer a lamb roast.

If you take advantage of the Do It Yourself (DIY) there are several points to consider. It's very hard work catering for large numbers of people. I have been doing my own private parties myself for years.

After several events I suddenly realised one night that everyone was going home after having a great time, wonderful food, lots of socialising and a great night all round and they were all going home - except me. Then I had the clearing up to do! So after many years of entertaining I now have our staff to do it. I sit back and enjoy my evening, the food, the socialising and no cleaning or clearing up.

Some of the questions I get asked I have listed below. You may find it helpful to consider these points when planning your function.

  • If I book a hog or lamb roast, what about vegetarians - We can cater for those too.

  • How many people can I feed with a hog - 100 to 200

  • Where can I obtain my hog / lamb /pig - Meat wholesaler, butcher or us.

  • Will I have to collect my roasting meat or can I get it delivered on the day of my function -  We can deliver

  • Will I be able to get a hog roasting machine into the venue and to where my guests will be - We operate CE approved machines which are 700mm wide

  • How do I secure the pig on to the spit roasting pole - We do that for you

  • If I'm going to spit roast over an open fire or charcoal, who will spend all day tending it - Not recommended unless you have experience

  • If the food is undercooked when our guests arrive what do I do -  If you follow our instructions and use one of our machines it won't be.

  • If the pig is overcooked, how much will I have to cut off before I can serve some edible meat Our machines do not burn your meat

  • How do I check that the hog is cooking and on schedule to be ready for carving on time - We can give you the cooking times

  • Can I hire the latest temperature probes from the hiring Company to check the meat is cooking - Yes

  • How do I get the crackling to crackle -  That's a secret, we will tell you on the day.

  • How long does it take to carve the pig - 1 hour depending on your skills and your carving knife.

  • How many people can I carve for per hour - Normally 100+

  • What should I do if, when I start carving, the food isn't cooked in the middle  It will be.

  • Do I hire in cutlery and chinaware or shall I use disposable -  Premium disposables are acceptable and easy.

  • Will the hog roast machine need cleaning thoroughly before returning after use -  No we do that

  • Do I really want to have all the hassle - It's good fun. If budget is an issue, take the DIY option.

  •  Why don't I just get the Hog Roast Company to do it -  Good idea !
